Actually he's not in jail for possession, he's in jail for being stupid. Third conviction for the same thing.

No one is in jail for simple possession. 2.8 grams of marijuana. 13 years, no parole. Fucking stupid, anyway you look at it.

.........I get the bible belt and deep south stuff..........but 6 months.....1 year.....2 years would still seem a pretty stiff progression for three minor possessions.

When a state has a tough law on repeat offenders, it sometimes ends up giving stiff sentences to someone for what otherwise would be a minor crime. I think the guy should have moved out of state. I note a lot of our SI liberals have moved from state to state over their lifetime.

I'm pretty sure those tough laws were democratically passed with majority public support. Even CA has a three strikes law.
