You do not force them to learn under any circumstances.

You entice them to learn. When I and the other grand parents come in both of the kids want to sit on our laps. And if you ask them if they want to read or work on their work books they get to sit there and do something interesting with you and they love it. They get to show off and share an experience with you that makes you say -great. And they really love that.

A great story about orcs and wizards and elf's will take them away to a wonderful place. We only service the kids at their pace, but one of us is always there when they are ready!!!!

They like learning and figuring stuff out. It is the figuring stuff out that is the most important thing to teach.

It can be taught! And the kids love doing it if it is presented gently but firmly.
