Apply common sensy.

The application of common sense does not reveal to me what the percentage of Americans who earn less than $20/hr has to do with explaining the concept of insurance to someone who clearly misunderstands it.

You do, don't you, unlike someone else hereabouts, understand that the point of insurance is to hedge against risk? If a whole bunch of people get flu shots every year and a flu shot costs $20, then it would be cheaper to pay individually for the flu shot than for all to buy insurance policies that provides one. Each would have to pay $20 for the policy to cover the flu shot plus another $10 or $20 for the insurance company to administer the payment plus another $5 for profit. So everyone would be paying a premium of maybe $40 for a $20 flu shot.

Insurance is for rare and costly events, not flu shots or lube jobs. J_F doesn't get that. Do you?
