Those studies showed a slight underperformance after the split announcement or effective date if there was no cash dividend increase. But about a 3% out-performance when there was a cash dividend increase.

It has to do with the signals about the future that a company or board gives.

Apple's board obviously knows this and Tim touched all the bases. Dividend increase, comment about future increases annually, etc.

Google is controlled by insiders and didn't care what signal they sent, but the GOOG and GOOGL are down post-split.
