The record return of sockeye salmon to the Fraser river in 2010 was ascribed to the huge amount of plankton feed made available to the salmon when they were at sea from erupting volcanoes in Alaska dropping so much ash and iron into the North Pacific. This year should also be huge as their offspring return.
