Children should be protected, but I think a majority of government controls that get pushed in order to defend children are bad ideas, and many of them don't protect children or even harm children.

Moving from the general back to the specific point you where complaining about, I think your ignoring the facts of the situation. Do you have any actual evidence of any significant harm to children because of marijuana sold as candy? I'm not talking one or two stories of kids using marijuana because it was in candy, I'm talking significant harm to a large number of children. Individual children are harmed because they get in to the liquor cabinet or drown in swimming pools, or die in car accidents, if "a kid was harmed" is enough to ban things or sue companies for making them, or to put regulatory and/or political pressure to try to make them stop than all those things should be fought against long before you get down to the insignificant risk posed by marijuana infused candy.
