If New Zealand votes to become a state of Australia, and Australia agrees to it, will you send in assassins? You probably think that's different because NZ isn't part of somewhere else. So how about Scotland? Are you okay that they vote to be independent and become so, from England/Wales? How about if they then vote to join the EU and the EU okays it? That's very similar to Crimea voting to be independent of Ukraine, then voting to rejoin Russia. Note that it's rejoin. Scotland wouldn't be reconstituting a past political entity by joining EU. How about Quebec? Falkland Islands? Gibraltar? How about British subjects in Hong Kong being evicted into the clutches of China? It looks very much that the USA simply wants to conquer Russia and jam NATO through Moscow, by hook or by crook and by force, including shooting opponents in the back who are out for a get-fit jog. When Israel was attacked, it's perfectly reasonable that they keep captured territory. The UN didn't and doesn't go all-out to protect Israel. Israel is a duly constituted UN state. But they are all hot and sweaty about Ukraine. Turkey is planning and wants access to the EU, to inflict Islamic Jihad, which is well underway across Europe and is pretty much a done deal demographically, given birth rates. So yes, they might yet reconstitute their empire and bigger than previously. But the Mongols are coming!! But rather than go too far back in history, let's stick with the present and how to democratically resolve things in a nice way, without shooting people in the back. Putin was democratically elected, easily. You might not like him, as I dislike Obama's ideology and self-dealing self-aggrandisement, but that's what Americans think is a great idea. < These aren't my words, they are the words of people who have worked with/for Putin and understand him far better then either you, or I.. Again, Putin is an Oligarch in charge of other oligarchs.. He's basically the "God Father" of the Russian Mafia because he has his intelligence and military assets to enforce his will.. That's how democracy goes. The second-hand "restoring the Reich" talk seems very unlikely to be true. Putin probably has greater problems looming out east than from the EU which is going to be up to their neck in jihad in a decade. Putin is probably not going to start insurrection in Estonia, Latvia etc, but it might be a good move if America's government is going to continue with shooting in the back and F-bombs in Ukraine. Obama is sensible to restrain the military mania. You won't like Dr Strangelove being in charge. Those Preppers might have the right idea. Hawk, here's commentary on Russia/Ukraine by Bob Jones, very well known in NZ and I find he uses thinking rather than dogma. So, unsurprisingly, he has come to the same conclusions as me. nzherald.co.nz Read the comments section too - always interesting to see what the mob replies. For example: Hip hip hooray - what a simple piece of sane writing. Unfortunately, Bob, we ordinary minions dont control the mainstream media enabled US driven imperial narrative which ominously looks just like what preceded WW1.
