No, alcohol was too embedded in western civilization and had been for centuries. In time, though I'd prefer otherwise, marijuana will be in America ... maybe. The worst thing about Prohibition was they (re)invented income taxation so governments had a tax revenue source other than excise taxes on alcohol (a primary source of revenue for the federal government since Washington's day - recall the Whisky Rebellion he suppressed). Oh yeah, they also took woman's suffrage nationwide. Women voters were the core of the pro-Prohibition movement.
