While I agree with this generally, I do believe that some opiods are so addictive that a large number of people can't control them, and it will wreck the lives of other people who are associated with the addict. It cannot be said to be harmless or "victimless".

OTOH, I cannot comprehend why, for example, Peyote/Mescaline would be illegal. It is a totally harmless substance, is not addictive, and it isn't going to destroy anyone's life.

Seems to me we need some middle ground on the issue between the conservative point of view of extreme control and the libertarian view of no control. (The liberal point of view seems to be suffering from multiple personality, as it is just all over the place, drifting).
