Ah, CSCO did exactly that and the only ones who got screwed were those who bailed. I think it's a bit naive not to believe that happens and you saw a MSFT attempt that not that long ago. Now, you may not consider an announcement like *We believe the stock price is too high* to be talking it down but others would disagree. Stock options have to be purchased and there's no reason to believe that the strong companies want their stock to hit an all-time high with nowhere to go but sideways or down for the foreseeable future. That isn't a problem most companies will ever have to deal with.
