Brooks Automation Announces Anticipated Earnings to Be Below Analyst's Estimates For First Quarter of Fiscal 1998
Business Wire - December 12, 1997 17:46

CHELMSFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 12, 1997--Brooks Automation Inc. (NASDAQ: BRKS)("Brooks" or the "Company"), today announced that it expects financial results for the fiscal 1998 first quarter ending December 31, 1997, will be below analysts' estimates as represented by the First Call Q1 '98 earnings consensus of 20 cents per share-fully diluted. The Company attributes the shortfall primarily to higher than anticipated product development spending incurred in connection with the Company's introduction of its new atmospheric product line and to delays associated with that introduction. The Company currently anticipates that first quarter sales will be between $28 million and $30 million. Commenting on these recent developments, Robert J. Therrien, President and Chief Executive Officer of Brooks Automation, said: "While we are disappointed in the anticipated first quarter results, the Company is pleased with the continuing interest from new customers for the new atmospheric tools which will allow us to expand the opportunity to provide more productivity enhancing solutions to the semiconductor equipment industry."
