We need infrastructure, but a lot of our money is being spent on NEW infrastructure where old components are no longer as important. I left Dallas 22 years ago and when I go back today I am astonished at the development north of I635, which was then the principal area of development. I am just amazed at the development of the freeway system in D/FW since I left. I know it isn't like that everywhere, but these huge, expensive projects consume a lot of money (the interchange at I635/Central in Dallas is said to have cost over a billion dollars).

Not all infrastructure needs to be kept up because a of it simply isn't important anymore. This idea of spending money on infrastructure just to be spending money (as was done with the stimulus) is just wasting money. Here, we had a two-lane road that carried no meaningful amount of traffic that was converted to 4 lanes for no good reason at all other than to blow stimulus money.
