My biggest concern with cloud computing is the security. I, like most everyone else, have been using cloud based email since I first started using the internet. It amazes me that the internet has been around so long and those services are still getting hacked. AOL just suffered a breach. Neither they nor Road Runner (Internet Service for Time Warner and BrightHouse Networks) encrypt emails so essentially your account user id, password, and emails can be easily intercepted if you use those accounts on your computer/phone/tablet and connect to a network that you don't control. i.e. a work network or free/paid WiFi. It seems like for most companies security is an afterthought and only after a major breach does it sometimes get attention. The security reason alone should make one scrutinize any cloud computing service. Another one is how is the data backed up and how can you get it if the company is unavailable. At work about 15 years ago we got a call from our internet provider that they were declaring bankruptcy and would be turning off our service in two days. We started calling other ISPs in town to establish new service but they were already flooded with other customers of our ISP. It took about a month to finally get a new connection. After that I try to have a secondary source and preferably a tertiary whenever possible.
