Balancing is key, indeed. No point in a 40MP camera if it's going to have a 3 hour battery life. But newer phones like the S5 have longer battery life than the iPhone plus the real time HDR and other advanced editing features. It's not impossible to have superb run time and high powered features if you have an efficient build. As for 16MP... it's not that the average person uses that level of detail on a daily basis, but some people used to buy iPhones because of the camera quality, including the *capability* to high rez when desired. Many amateur photographers would love to have that power on their phone for their hobby shots. Will be great to see how much Apple catches up in these areas with the iPhone 6.
