To all esp. Truff, Gary, Spank, Dr R, Dr I, Clinton and others (even the Rock) you guys/gals are great!! I haven't posted anything meaningful as of now but hope I will today PLEASE READ BELOW, IMPORTANT

Been following the IOMega story for some time. It's a great story that hasn't played out yet. I wanted to invest some time ago but something made me change my mind. I've been looking for an entry position for last couple of months and have followed this thread closely. IOM was just seeming to me to come down to a nice price UNTIL I went shopping tonite.

I stopped in a Staples (New Hampshire). I had seen a compaq last month with a built in ZIP, It wasn't there so I asked the salesman. (I noticed there were no ext zips in stock or LS 120's) (There were some Zip Pluses instock) He said some PC's come with ZIPs and some don't. I said if I get a PC I would really like a built in ZIP. He said thats not a problem but they don't have any (or don't ever have any)

I told him I was really looking to buy in Jan or Feb and that I really wanted a zip built in, and this is what he said......

"IF YOU CAN WAIT TILL APRIL OR MAY, ALL THE PC'S WILL HAVE A STANDARD 200 MB DRIVE BY SONY/FUJI TO REPLACE THE 1.44 DRIVE" I SAID "I THOUGHT THE ZIP WAS GONNA BE THE NEW DRIVE IN PC'S" HE SAID "IT'S ONLY 100 MEGABYTES, SONY IS GONNA GIVE IOMEGA A RUN FOR THIER MONEY"

WOW! He said it like he knows something! I've read all the pro's con's vs SONY but I am starting the think that the backward compatability (1.4 mb) is important (If I have this right, Is it the sony thats backward compatable?) to the general public, even though it's eventually history. If OEM's
start incorporating an internal 200 mb drive with 1.4 mb comp into new pc's, IOM is in big trouble. I've read here that that can't happen for a number of reasons, but can it?

If the Zip Collapses that dooms Clik and on and on IMHO.

I want IOM to win this contest but don't know what to think.

In Favor of IOM

Installed base... Good
Backward comp.... Bad
KE..... Good
200 mb Sony.. Bad
Manufact capability Good

Next six months will settle this debate, I want to figure it out now!
