Ten works for Intel, a company that makes chips and was high tech when Hewlett Packard was. He's not in any sort of software startup. Just grinding out the commodity chips...

It's almost as if he moved to Silicon Valley to produce pork bellies!

High tech is software now. The chip producers haven't had a new idea in years. It's just smaller feature sizes and more cores, onward until the limit is reached. Then, they really WILL be the equivalent of pork bellies.
Not much competition among pork belly producers.

I think the next big thing will be AI's and robots taking over job after job. What employer doesn't want an employee that works 24/7/365, can be owned outright and never needs a salary, vacation or benefit? One that never gets sick and never dies! One that only needs it's software updated and hardware tweaked for differing job requirements.
