I think paper trading is a great idea. I did not paper trade but have sold puts three times for real. I'm no expert by any means, but I like it.

If you are considering 500 shares, 5 contracts, I think you would find it more than makes up for the commission. Assuming you are using a discount broker. 5 contracts would cost about $40 for me I believe, and that is not the cheapest around.

take a look at a short term AMAT Put and let me know what you think.

One of my trades looks good, and the other two I need to roll over because the price has gone down farther. But it looks like when I roll over I will make a little more money for selling another months worth of time premium.

Let me know if you find something that looks better, I'm always willing to learn and get smarter.
