Abe's Sales Slip

by Joe McCloud - posted 12/11/1997

Considering I'm such a huge fan of GT
Interactive's game Abe's Oddysee, you can
imagine that when I learned of its position in a
recent NPD Group Inc. report, I became as
depressed as Kenny and Bobbi McCaughey are
going to be when everyone stops giving them free
stuff.

Dispite the big bucks GT shelled out to promote
Abe, the title slipped from its number 16 position
during the first two weeks of October to just
beyond the top 20 mark ranking in at 22 at the
end of October. One analyst has calculated that
between the $10m GT spent on promotion and
the $2.5m-$3m for development, they would need
to sell a 500,000-600,000 units just to break even!
So far Abe has made his way into about 60,000
homes.
