Richard thank you. What do you think about the 80% margins are they gone to be able to keep this margins?

From early on the overseas prices were planed to be lower than the US prices and they reiterated this in the CC. This is a sure decrease in margins.

My concern is when viagra is out they will have price pressures, and will cause the need for lower prices and margins.

So even with a fair change in margins from 80% to 40% one will need a growth rate on sales above 200% to go back to the glories of the recent past. Their former goal was to increase capacity 500% with new plant. The clients they will have, the marketing ability will be there if they give a chunk to others. And they have being strong against that.

Zebra,

I absolutely agree with you. Mechanistically, Muse and Viagra ARE potentially synergistic products for the treatment of organic ED due to their differing modes of action (alprostadil increases cAMP while sildenafil increases cGMP in the penis). This dual mode may provide those individuals with a less than optimal response to Viagra with the 'diamond cutter' they're looking for (and STILL avoid the needle!). This needs to be kept in mind as we await for the approval of Viagra in Q2 of next year.

However, the more I think about it, I'm not so willing anymore to give Viagra (and Pfizer) a free pass on this 'blue halo' effect noted in some individuals (occurred in 3-4% of those taking Viagra and lasted 10-20 minutes). IF directly related to PDE inhibition in the retina, then there COULD be a problem here as more individuals use this product for longer periods of time. No one here is a bigger fan of Pfizer than me (except BigKNY3, of course), but I still haven't gotten a satisfactory response from my ophthalmological colleagues concerning the benign nature of this effect. Perhaps Cacaito and Tunica were on to something afterall. Dr. Bond also alluded to a 'rumor' about information contained in the submitted Phase III studies for Viagra. It should be very interesting.

>>these drugs [Muse and Viagra] will be prescribed together.

Looks like this is no secret to anyone who reads the Vivus
10-K for 1996, Amendment 3, Filed 12/04/97: the Vivus/Janssen
marketing agreement.
------
from Section 2.2 "Janssen No Conflict. During term of this
agreement ... neither Janssen nor its affiliates will develop
market, or distribute products other than [Muse]; provided that
with VIVUS' prior approval, Janssen may develop, market or
distribute ... products for the treatment of [ED] that are
complementary with [Muse] and that do not involve the
transurethral delivery, local injection, local topical
application or other local delivery of a drug substance."
------
So there you have it. VVUS *is* planning for combination therapies
for ED. That is, Muse in combination with systemic therapies
(the swallow-a-pill kind).

Cheers, David
