Joan: I closed out all my shorts and stuck most of my money in BEARX and am happy to let them do the work for 3% (for them, a day's work -ggg-)
Here in california we have some very popular small retailers that are always packed- I was hoping they'll be dumped in January. cost plus, western marine, ross stores, I wish I'd bought but not too late. (I sold Rost too soon) We have a local chain of Chinese food grocery stores that's growing like crazy,(bay area is very large percent asian) I'm trying to find out if they're going public.
There is an eternal shortage of self-storage units, apartment buildings and mobile home parks in the west, and everybody I know is out buying motor homes, so these areas may be better bets than shopping malls and corporate office space. Franklin has a california REIT that looks interesting, FSN.
