How old is it? When was the last time you blew it out with compressed air? Some of them you have to be careful you don't blow the dust back into them. In some cases the laptop must be taken apart for a proper cleaning. A service depot can do that for you.

Sounds like a heating issue. Overheating will shut the machine off.

SS, here's some advice how to monitor processor temperature in case you need it ehow.com

PS: I stumbled upon a temp indicator in Win8.1 recently but don't know whether win7 has it built in
