People who use the Cloud for a simple backup of their local files may find CryptSync useful.

stefanstools.sourceforge.net

CryptSync encrypts both your files' name and your files' data and synchronizes your Cloud folder with a local folder on your machine. It can be used as either a Graphical Window or a Command Line program.

Note: CryptSync doesn't necessarily need Cloud storage. It works equally well with local volumes, external storage devices such as Thumb Drives or Drive Enclosures, and across home networks.

Unlike some Cloud storage services who store your files encrypted, (or maybe not,) CryptSync encrypts your files on your machine; thus, they're secure in transit as well as when stored.

CryptSync is on the PMS Witch download list.

P.S. Newcomers to using CryptSync should set up some "practice data" to hone their skills at using this package. Some synchronization options will remove files on the local disk if they are not found on the Cloud disk. One should be very careful when using this feature. It should go without saying, but I'll say it anyway: don't "learn" using your only copy of important files.
