I followed Neeka's suggestion on my laptop and it did lots of "stuff", all of which I know absolutely nothing about.

Your instructions sound like a good idea but are much too complex for simple users like me. What will happen to my machine if I only do the routine as suggested by Neeka? Is there a potential for something bad to happen?

PMS W: What do you recommend as a routine for keeping a desktop in proper order?

The computer is running very well and would like to keep it that way.

I use Windows 7, IE 11, and use a desktop purchased at the end of 2013

Here's what I do currently:

Run the Windows Disk Defrag tool daily
CCleaner weekly
Spybot Search & Destroy weekly
Do a 'cold boot' weekly (shut down and start up again)
Have a McAfee Internet Security Suite running at all times, and up to date
Full virus scan (from McAfee Internet Security Suite) weekly
Have the Windows update set to do automatic updates

Now I'll add running the Disk Cleanup weekly (steps outlined by Neeka)

Should I be doing anything else?

Thanks

Thanks very much. I wasn't aware of the new addon. I've often wanted to remove old msft updates, but was always afraid I'd remove something I shouldn't.
