Which version of Android did you have the good experience with?

Note that many problems of the past were hardware, not Android, issues. If you buy a reputable Android 4.3+ phone, battery, bloatware, signal, speed, crashes, etc. are all non-issues. Go for an old 2011 model, and yes, some of these could crop up.

"Fragmentation" in particular turned into a non-issue with the advent of v4.0 and is particularly irrelevant with the latest ones. Again, still a concern for the unfortunate early adopters who haven't updated or those who are stuck using very old cheap Android phones, but if you can get your hands on a modern version, no worries.
