FWIW: The CEO said that the R&D is focused on a disruptive technology in a completely new market segment for the company. So it doesn't involve pumps. The quote is on page three of the transcript.

I feel the same way, lets be frank, this is a small company with no track record of sustainable profitability. If you believe in the story and can guess the approximate timeframe, it is probably safer to play this through call options. Without much profit, who knows how low this thing can go if it disappoints.
