A higher min wage might get more people to work service jobs and quit welfare. After all, isn't that the right's argument..........that welfare is so lucrative it encourages people not to work.
Too high of a minimum wage will increase unemployment and increase dependence on welfare.

Raising the minimum wage would be OK if unemployment were at 5% or less. Right now, nationally it's 6.3%. Not bad, but not a good time to drastically hike the minimum wage.
