There are plentiful models of Android phones with superb hardware, clean versions of Android, and available ranging from $250 to $650. No reason to go with a sub-par one unless your budget is extremely tight.

Game Oven isn't talking about budget phones. They are talking about flaky gyroscope performance across all product tiers.
We weren’t just testing on low tier devices, by the way. Popular devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4 are problematic as well.
I imagine your app doesn't necessitate the gyroscope, so you don't have to worry about this particular fragmentation issue. That said, I wonder, how extensive is your testing? I understand that you are comfortable only building your app for IceCreamSanwich and above, but then do you test it on one Android model? 10? 100? 1000? How many is good enough?
