At this point, I would hesitate to lump all fuel cell companies together. There is a big difference between fuel cells for portable (i.e., transportation) use and fixed installations. So far the only portable applications, such as the fork lifts for WalMart, run on hydrogen fuel, rather than starting with methane or other more easily stored fuels. Fixed installations like those made by FuelCell, seem to have better near term prospects. FCEL, furthermore, has a long track record of equipment that appears to function reliably. I don't see anything on the near term horizon for cars and trucks. Possibly municipal bus lines could adopt fuel cells, but storing enough hydrogen fuel on the bus at this point is still risky and/or problematic.
