They are smart enough, and if they fail, that is on them.

But unions today serve to block nonmembers from getting jobs that they should not be excluded from. Today, as automation becomes a problem for them, unions are all about keeping nonmembers OUT, which creates an inequity in which the union controls membership as a way of of allocating the available jobs. Even though there may be better qualified candidates who are willing to do the same job for less money.

There are an unnecessary remnant of a distant era in which they served a useful purpose. Today, rather than serving a pro-labor cause their purpose has totally changed.

So, my concerns are more about the negative effect the union has on labor than about the conflict between management & unions.
