>> The fact is that WA state has the highest minimum wage in the country and yet, is one of the most prosperous states economically.

And what do you infer from this? That higher minimum wages create prosperity?

They don't seem to hurt it.

Tell me how that minimum wage is working out in Stevens, Grant, Franklin and Yakima counties?

LOL. Now where did I say things were perfect in WA state?

Let's be honest about it: Washington State IS King county. There is plenty of opportunity there, but where else? If the minimum wage is statewide, why isn't the economic opportunity statewide?

No question.......KC is a major growth engine in the state but the Kennewick and Mt Vernon metros are booming as well. And most of the rest of the state's metros with the notable exception of Spokane, a conservative hotbed, are showing strong growth. I don't see much to complain about.

For purposes of this discussion, booming is employment growth at 2% or greater YOY. Strong growth is 1.5% to 2.0% YOY. Spokane's growth is at .7%.

The answer of course, is that King County has enough other activity to overcome a high minimum wage. The rest of the state, not so much.

Not true. See above.

No question that Seattle is a strong growth magnet but the state has worked real hard to encourage growth in other parts of the state, capitalizing on whatever resources a particular region has. I think the state is generally prosperous. Is it just because of the state's minimum wage? Of course not. However, I think its due to a progressive [non political] way of thinking.........thinking outside the box. Its what attracted me to the West Coast originally.
