The non-confusion Palm PC:

jhild suspect Microsoft of creating "a little FUD for people buying the Palm Pilot as Christmas gifts, now would they? Naw, they wouldn't do that."

They wouldn't do that... they'd just mail everyone on the Embedded Systems magazine mailing list a 3-CD set of Windows CE development information, hoping to get some suckers for their operating system. If I got one, everyone got one!

What I think that Microsoft is doing is defining a "specification" which can be implemented by hardware manufacturers. They're probably hoping for the same people who currently are making (and now selling much of) Windows CE machines. I doubt that Microsoft is going to make these things themselves.

They can probably get away with a name like "Palm PC" if it's just a code name for a spec... but I'd sue their butts off (no, not referring to any previous butt messages) if they called their box that... if Pilot Pen can threaten infringement successfully, I'd guess that Palm Computing Division of 3Com, maker of the PalmPilot which runs Palm OS can threaten Microsoft pretty well... maybe even for that million bucks a day that Microsoft isn't paying the government.

But I love my Pilot.

Dick

It could backfire on them, the sales staff is so use to selling the Palm Pilot they may just hand the customer a Palm Pilot instead of a Palm PC.
