China can bully all they want, but if they invade it would be a world wide catastrophe for them.

It could get ugly fast.

Very astute analysis UW.. (but then I would expect nothing less from you.. ;)

For China to support their claims to the S. China Sea, Vietnam is critical. And for China to dominate Vietnam it would also mean dominating Laos and Cambodia. Only Thailand stands as a plausible opponent, and we're now seeing the recent undermining of it's government by many former Communists (UDD.. PTT).. Thailand is a fairly complex situation right now, and generally mis-reported by the Western Press.. But I think a lot of unrest is being supported by Chinese influenced interests out of Cambodia, and perhaps Laos (Cambodian flags have been photographed at a number of UDD protests)..

And now we can essentially believe that Russia and China may work together to undermine the various Pacific countries in the S. China Sea..

The one thing that "War is Boring" article omitted is a point that I've raised before.. The PLA is primarily made up of "Little Emperors".. Single Males, who have been spoiled throughout their lives by both parents and Grandparents. These children represented the future of two family lines, so they basically received whatever they desired..

The last major conflict with Vietnam saw 9,000 Chinese deaths. It can be expected that there will be even more in any future conflict, which means that for every dead Chinese soldier, two entire family lines will be eradicated.

I can only believe this will have much more of a social impact than it did in 1979.
