TM Anette,

You can also just tell your broker to keep it in your cash account-(type 1)-and that you don't want it loaned out. If I'm not mistaken, they are then not supposed to loan it out to shorts.

BTW, I had some friends, who in 1980, sold rallies in silver on its way up to $50 /oz. They made a nice living selling rallies and covering their shorts. As a matter of fact, they are still making a nice living. I had some other friends who were long on the way up to $50/oz. They retired. Some of them stay home and trade stocks. Annette, I'm not Lucky, but I am

I am going through something now that has convinced I just as well
rather not have stock certificates in home storage. Its a long story
that I won't get into,but in short I recently discovered a hoard
of stock certificates and on searching records I found 1,000 shares were missing---you will not believe the paper work involved in getting
those shares replaced(I am doing this I behalf of my mother). It has
now been 2 months and the process is still not done.
What I would put in a fire-proof lockbox is the account statements
and let the actual certificates remain on deposit.IMO.Max
