I doubt there is any resolve left in America to defend Vietnam.

The Vietnamese can hold their own. I think you have personal experience with that.

The last time the Chinese rumbled with Vietnam they got their ass handed to them with a thank you note. I don't buy that the PLA is much better than it was in 1979.

Who would stop them

We, and the rest of the world, would quit doing business with them. Instant bankruptcy. The Ukraine is small potatoes compared to China invading it's neighbors. What will be a test, and that is why they are trying it out, are small moves in the China Sea.
