Cal-ASICS uses blue laser light for its lithography to produce gate array chip, it's nothing new. Apparently, blue light is used in semiconductor chips and direct broadcast satellite television also. The blood gas analyzer may be a perfect fit with the Light Knife although it looks like two different type lasers needed for the process.

There is more info on the light spectrum of lasers in the JMAR 1996 annual report. The blood gas analyser is even mentioned under the blue light category, so JMAR was already familiar with that possibility quite awhile ago.

It seems to me that LPWR makes continous wave lasers whereas JMAR uses short pulse lasers. It is the short pulses that give the lasers special characteristics that allow things like micromachining to be done. By changing the length of these pulses or the intensitiy different effects can be achieved. For example the short pulses can remove material faster than it can conduct heat so materials can be shaped or cut without heat damage. The light-knife is an example.
