Unworkable. Civil liability is huge, and has a low standard. Anyone with any sense is going to boot their mentally ill relative out- if they can stomach that. Also, I suspect it would make people even more interested in hiding mental illness. If they didn't know about it, then they couldn't possibly be held liable, so the more thoroughly you hid the illness of your mentally ill relative the better- in case they acted out- and then you could say "Oh my God- this was just all such a surprise!"

Since you're all in to "thinking" and all, it might behoove you to think about where the things you advocate might lead. Of course no one is going to listen to you, or me, and nothing will probably be done. So we'll probably just be able to have this conversation again the next time there's another mass murder.

They cannot figure out the mentally ill problem, so they have to get rid of the guns.

The idea of addressing the gun problem through mental health is a red herring and nuts.

That idea was tossed out by the NRA to make the problem unsolvable. Just like they want it.
