I am not aware of "objective statistical measures" that indicate Apple was fairly valued at sub $500.
It is unclear what he means by "statistical" measures. Certainly there are objective quantitative measures that can be used as a starting point to assess investment opportunity. As you corrected him, the point is: for investors knowledgeable about Apple, there was no blind market timing or simple DCA involved in identifying mispricing and exploiting it. It was an exemplary contrarian opportunity and though it is less so today, it remains an opportunity.
