the underlying theme is that capitalism has destroyed the planet so badly that there's not enough food.
Huh? I don't remember any hint of how the world in Hunger Games came to be, much less any indictment of capitalism. If anything, the society is portrayed as Kim Jong-Un's wet dream. Maybe liberals engineered a collapse of capitalist society, which made conditions ideal for the dystopian government we see in the movie. Maybe it's explained more in the book. I don't know.

As for liberalism's chronic depression and envy, yeah, that too has probably influenced the Santa Barbara LOSER in negative ways.
