Aw c'mon Bread, sometimes you forget the cover and simply spout your prejudices.. I'm very careful in that regard I despise the southern mindset, informed by centuries of racism and prejudice and try and make that clear most of the time

A philosophical base for our actions is all we atheists have. And the reason atheists know more about religion than religious folks, and are kinder and are more educated, is actually quite clear, but seldom mentioned i.e. it is because they have the ability to figure out myth; as opposed to those who cannot. One would not expect folks who cannot figure out myth to behave better than those who can, as it is more primitive behavior, and history has clearly shown how primitive folks behave. Usually not as well as more enlightened folks.
