But honestly a part of me hates that I had to see the levels of depravity I saw off and on during those years. God bless the social workers who deal with that side of life day after day and go home to try and sleep at night.

Having worked with social workers as a CASA volunteer, I can't even imagine doing it for a living. It is one of the hardest jobs in the world if you take it seriously, and those guys get paid almost nothing.

Shameful BS.

Nice to hear from you again, Kate.

Katelew; It was an emotional roller-coaster reading about your daughter and the children she took in. So very uplifting to know there are those that give so much of themselves to help others but then of course the disheartening aspect of the drug addictions brought me down. ......You disappeared after a tornado or storm or some such thing in your part of the world and there was discussion and worries that maybe something had happened. I for one am very glad to hear things are good for you and that you are okay. In a forum like this we just never know. One of the regulars here from when you posted before has died from cancer.

Yes John and I have had some real disagreements on Krugman over the years, but John is a good man. A really good person I know. Sometimes I'm even mad at myself when I argue from a passionate position on Krugman. The sides we take are always the same; he supports Krugman and I oppose. Krugman was pretty much wrong on his positions on the economic crises in Europe IMO, and seems to be moving more towards social commentary. Rather than economic. I rarely comment on his columns on social ideas - ideology. I just don't care what Krugman thinks about social issues so much - his economic pontifications are a different story. So less to discuss coming from Krugman for me. I always and I mean always respect Johns thinking and post though. His patients with me is deserving of sainthood.

Thanks for the note filling us in on what has transpired in your life - and like I said, welcome back. I hope you stick around and goodness sake - good luck to your daughter - speaking of sainthood!
