No disagreement from me.

When I was a practicing CPA and started reading about the concept of replacing it with a National Sales Tax, the idea appealed to me greatly. Having handled many, many IRS audits and collection cases, I'd seen the damage the IRS does to ordinary people who are trying to make a living. I remember discussing it with a client and he said, "If they do that I won't need you." I told him I could find something else to do.

I would be first in line to see them go away. They were nasty to deal with back then; I spent so many days at the Federal Building arguing with idiots over nonsense. And in the end you always end in compromise that has nothing, whatsoever, with the tax law. It is what you can negotiate for your guy against an appeals officer who is trying to extract whatever he can get.
