actually I would not consider it a religious construct since most religions say that they are the "one and only", and if you are not "one of us" then you will burn in the fiery pits of hell for all eternity

plus, in the bible, you can stone your daughter to death for sex out of wedlock

also, according to the bible, it's okay to own slaves

the list is endless of the barbaric crap in the name of "religion"... yes we have improved over time... but the golden rule is perfect in its simplicity... as opposed to the many religions that produce people who are intolerant of differences and/or those who don't belong to their religion

lots of religious organizations do very good works, with charities and such... my biggest concern is the politicians who wear their religion on their sleeve and give their holier than thou sermons... there's a very good reason this country was founded on the separation of church and state... worship whatever you want but don't try to force it on other people, and don't try to make laws based on religious quackery

The concept of the golden rule has been mentioned by most of the great thinkers since words were first put on paper about 700 BC.

In fact that is how we tell the great thinkers, from the not so great thinkers.

There talking about kindness.

Plato, Buddha and Confucius, were big time into kindness, and maybe to some degree even Homer himself in the Iliad.

Among the first books ever written.
