THC:

You are not alone in taking a pounding on high tech (semis) recently. I started trading in June and made a lot of money up through those two miserable days in late October. So now I have a big tax hit for CY97 and am carrying a heavy paper loss into 1998. However, I strongly believe that I will come out well ahead in 1998 by holding what I have (except for 300 shares of Oracle). I also agree with what Mike Winn told you (#2097).

After October, I decided that I was just lucky and didn't now a heck of a lot about intelligent investing. So I am studying TA now, while I wait to invest sometime next year.

Somone on one of the threads that I follow recommended the following book(s). You might see if your library has them. If not, you can purchase them on-line through Book Stacks Unlimited, Inc. (www.books.com)

The two books are:

1. Trading for a Living by Dr. Alexander Elder (John Wiley & Sons)
$45.92 (includes shipping and handling).

The second book is optional, it is a study guide for the first. You can test yourself to see if you really learned the material.

2. Study Guide for Trading for a Living. The cost with shipping and
handing is $27.91.

I've only gone through about a fourth of each books, but it has been a good investment from my perspective.
