As everyone here knows, your memory isn't exactly what it used to be.

I'm well aware of the history, and while LBJ's support had splintered, he was no newcomer to elections; had he wanted to continue he could have. But the war had him concerned about his health, the competition would be fierce, and he didn't want to do it. No one forced him out.

It is neither here nor there. He will be remembered for three things:

- The Civil Rights legislation, which he claimed would have those "N*s voting Democrat for 200 years",
- The creation of a health care program that destroyed the country fiscally in less than 50 years, and
- The blind ramping up of the Vietnam War.

You can't distance yourself from your party by just claiming, "Oh, they were CONSERVATIVE Democrats." You hitched your wagon to it.
