We have the Pentagon, we have thousands of interns and aids and such doing nothing but researching every depth and angle of contingency and strategy. I have never understood why people can step up and make such uninformed comments, or why leaders can get caught in such flawed oversite, given the resources at their fingertips. Bush wasn't immune from it either. After cleaning Saddam's clock in a war that went like fine tuned clock work he was unprepared for the operations which needed to follow in such a diverse and violence prone culture as Iraq. He seemed to think Iraqis would be like the liberated French in WW2. Once it did become clear, however, I thought they did a good job of stepping up to help Iraq establish itself as a secure nation. That has since deteriorated however.
