Less, a nation as large as ours is going to have huge differences in culture, opinion, social status, etc.

Yet there are still ideals that unite us all as Americans. We treasure our freedoms, especially the 1st amendment. We believe that everyone is equal and that no one ought to be condemned to fate. America is still the land of opportunity, as can be seen by continuous waves of immigrants literally dying to come here.

The polarization of American politics, IMO, is largely due to us Americans taking for granted all that we cherish. Moments of crisis like 9/11 can remind us what truly is important, but then once the crisis is resolved we go back to the same old same old.
