I'm not really sure how your last post follows the original. The conclusion was that he deserted his post. I found nothing in the AP story suggesting anyone thought he was thinking of coming back.

That is nonsense....
He mailed home is computer and personal possessions....walked off without his weapon.....and then there were his notes.

He deserted.
