With the Northern civilization having more political power to enact laws effecting the South. This was bound to cause a clash, not unlike the revolutionary war clash with England, and not unlike current clash between the Northeastern Urbanites and the rest of the country.

The Civil War era is a piece of our history I've read very little about
Then you give us your opinion, as if it mattered at all. You should at least go see (or read) "12 Years a Slave", to get a clue.
