Evenutally you'll see a centralized computing appliance into which everything else in the household can connect, remotely or otherwise. Everything from the big-screen monitor to the telephone to the coffee maker. In essense, the main computer will interface with a high-speed connection to the outside world and these "dumb" devices will be controlled by one, standardized system. This is not some earth-shattering new technology as much as it is a reconfiguration of current PC technology. For example, if you have a set-top box why not just add a $100 terminal for generating reports, presentations, home-banking, et cetera. Probably something other than a Microsoft operating system will be required for that and I believe IBM, Sun, Oracle and Intel are cooperating on this without Microsoft which wants complete control. That's a good move on Intel's part considering some of Microsoft's truly horrible technology and predatory business practices.

Bob & All,

Has anyone been successful accessing the net via @HOME from a private/home local area network (using a proxy server)? If so, any comments?

TIA,
