>>At some point, AOL runs out of favorable spots for ads.

Bear in mind that AOL already has sold much of its most desirable
space on three year up-front deals that won't benefit from
rate increases from subscriber growth until they expire.

Yes, they can add space. But already the gauntlets of pop-ups
etc. make using AOL like being in one long Publisher's Clearing
House promotion. But in fact, AOL has been reducing the number
of services -- and hence amount of space.

Sure, Website have ads. But somehow moving about the Internet
doesn't impart the same sense of innundation and annoyance as
does using AOL -- the entire character of which is visibly
morphing to sell, sell, sell.

In fact when you call support now they give you a hard sell to
allow them to connect you to CUC telemarketing for a hard sell
to sign up for CUC.

There's even a new 'feature' in the initial sign-up -- have an
AOL 'Guide' call you to introduce you to the service; during which
of course, the emphasis is on buying stuff including direct
pitches for such as Guide to AOL book, and yes, "can we connect you
to CUC?" It's all so gross.

Absolutely agreed.
